DENTAL IMPLANTS

A dental implant is a surgical component that interfaces with the bone of the jaw or skull to support a dental prosthesis such as a crown, bridge, denture, or facial prosthesis, or to act as an orthodontic anchor. Essentially, it serves as an artificial tooth root, providing a strong foundation for replacement teeth that look, feel, and function like natural teeth.

The process of getting a dental implant involves several steps:

  1. Initial Consultation: This involves an examination of your teeth and gums, along with X-rays, and full medical history review to determine if you're a good candidate for dental implants.

  2. Surgical Placement: In this step, the dental implant (usually made of titanium) is surgically placed into the jawbone beneath the gum tissue. Over a period of several months, the implant fuses with the jawbone through a process called osseointegration. Average fee can range from $1000 to $3000 per implant and are case dependent.

  3. Abutment Placement: Once the implant has integrated with the jawbone, a small connector called an abutment is attached to the implant. This serves as the support for the replacement tooth or teeth.

  4. Final Restoration: Finally, a dental crown, bridge, or denture is securely attached to the abutment, providing a natural-looking and functional replacement for the missing tooth or teeth. Average fee for an abutment and crown can range from $1500 to $3000 per implant and are case dependent.

Dental implants offer several advantages over other tooth replacement options, such as bridges or dentures. They are more stable and durable, allowing for better chewing and speaking ability. Additionally, they help preserve bone structure and prevent the loss of adjacent teeth, which can occur with traditional bridges.

However, not everyone is a suitable candidate for dental implants. Factors such as overall health, the condition of the jawbone, and oral hygiene habits are taken into consideration. It's important to consult with a qualified dentist or oral surgeon to determine if dental implants are the right option for you.
