March is a month dedicated to the dental team with Dental Assistants Recognition Week, Employee Appreciation Day, and also National Dentist Day on March 6th. With all the focus on the dental team, we wanted to take the time to let you know who we are. Have you ever wondered who’s in my mouth, or who am I talking to at the office? Kalina Dental has a team of specifically trained clinicians and personnel who are all a strategic part of your dental care. A dentist is a licensed healthcare professional who specializes in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of oral diseases and conditions affecting the teeth, gums, mouth, and related structures. Dentists are trained to provide a wide range of dental services aimed at maintaining oral health and improving the appearance and function of the teeth. Dental therapists are also licensed oral health professionals who are trained to perform certain dental procedures, such as fillings and extractions, under the supervision of a dentist. They often work in underserved areas to expand access to dental care. Dental hygienists are trained professionals who focus on preventive oral care. They perform cleanings, and non-surgical gum treatments, take dental x-rays, apply fluoride treatments, and educate patients on proper oral hygiene practices. Dental assistants work closely with dentists and hygienists, providing support during dental procedures. Their duties may include preparing and presenting treatment plans, taking impressions, exposing dental x-rays, and assisting with patient care. Sterile technicians help the office and dental assistants by sterilizing instruments, disinfecting rooms, and prepping operatories. Receptionists and administrative staff manage patient appointments, handle billing and insurance claims, and assist with administrative tasks to ensure the smooth operation of the dental practice. Administrative personnel also assist patients with financial information on treatment plans. As a part of a dental team we wear different hats but we all have the same goal, patient care.
